Homework Policy:
In fifth grade we consider homework as an extension to the daily lessons that are taught. If time allows for it, it may be started in class. All homework needs to be brought home each day by the child to be reviewed by the parent/guardian. Please go over each assignment to ensure that it is completed and that your child understands it. Homework will be assigned every day Monday through Thursday. The child is required to read for approx. 30 minutes each night. Math homework will vary. It will be a combination of review and new material. It is the student’s job to fill in the homework daily in their daily planner and to be brought home daily in a homework folder. If there should be any problem, please notify the teacher by writing a note in the daily planner. Some student’s will be required to have a parent signature in the daily planner, and it is a good practice for ALL parents to do this in the first quarter. By signing you are agreeing that the assignments are complete and have been reviewed and corrected. All homework is due between 8-8:30. Please help your child be organized and responsible!
Study Island-
I will be assigning homework on Study Island. I will assign a specific lesson that supports our class work and an amount of time that students should practice on Study Island. I will filter the results from 3:30pm until 9:00am, because I know some students do their homework in the morning. Your child will be expected to complete online assignments in middle and high school, so this is good preparation for their future.
If for some reason your child does not have access to a computer, please write me a note and I will try to find time for them to complete it at school.
Make up / Unfinished work
Any missed work while the student is absent will be placed on their desk. It will have their name and the date already written on it. It is their responsibility to look for any assignments they missed. They will have a day for each day they were absent to turn in the work.
Any class work or homework missing (if the student has been present at school) will require a tally mark in the Responsibility Notebook. If they complete it and turn it in late, they will be able to change the missing assignment to Late in the Responsibility Notebook. If help is needed to complete an assignment, please encourage your child to ask. I will be happy to find a time to help them if there was something they did not understand.
Any missing assignments will be communicated to the parent in the Friday Report. Assignments should be written by the student each day in their agenda. Encourage your child to write down their assignments daily. It is a good habit to get into before middle school.
